Thai Binh Medical University was founded with the Decision N0 114/CP dated 23 July 1968 and the Decision N0  34/CP dated 24 June 1979 of the Government Council (now known as The Government ).

TRAINING

       The University is training both doctors of medicine and pharmacists with a lot of codes of graduates of medicine and pharmacology and post graduates of medicine and pharmacists at high school level. Up to now, the University has trained over 12,000 Doctors of Medicine as the plan of the State. Besides, in international cooperation, nearly 500 doctors of Cambodia and Laos are also trained. Since 1991, the university is allowed to train post graduates of medicine and in 2005, the Government has appointed the university to train PhDs of medicine. At present, the university is training 13 professional codes of the first degree specialists, 6 codes of the second degree specialists, one code of master of public health. The present number of students at university is over 3000.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

The University has completed nearly 1,000 projects and topics of scientific research. Most of them are State, Ministerial and International cooperation levels. many of these topics have good results and were applied in taking care of patients' health. The University has combined tightly scientific research task and the task of improving and enhancing the quality of training staff. 

STAFF AND ORGANIZATION SYSTEM

At present, the University staff includes 415 employees with 305 teaching staff, of which 92 are Senior lecturers, 11 Outstanding lecturers. 85% of teaching staff have master degree and over, with 08 Associate professors, 16 PhDs, 125 masters, 46 specialists of first degree and 28 specialists of Second degree. At present, the University has a nearly completed system of functional departments and boards and 34 departments. Besides, the hospital of Thai Binh Medical University has come into active since 1st January, 2004. 

FACILITY

The University has a 3-storey building with 30 classrooms built in 1998, a Central lab with the main duty of developing Hereditary and Molecular biology techniques and some labs for student's practice. At present, the 9-storey building of the University is being completed that will be the central of the University. Within 2006, departments and boards will shift to this 9-storey building.

The university's computers (about 100) are connected with LAN and Internet that are for students and staff to search information of medicine and other fields. 

The University's library is being invested to modernize and complete E-library in order to enhance management, training and scientific research tasks. 

AWARDS

With the contribution, the University was awarded noble awards including: 4 Labor Orders (a 1st-rank, a 2nd-rank and 2 orders of 3rd-rank), a 3rd-rank Independence Order (in 2003)and many certificates/ decorations offered by different National Ministries and sectors. The University also received some awards of Laos People's democratic Republic and the Kingdom of Cambodia due to good achievements in training health human resource for these two nations last years.

TRAINING COOPERATION AND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

Up to now, the University has cooperated and linked in training and scientific research with Universities of Medicine and Pharmacology nationwide and Medical Institutes of Ministry of Health.

The University has also cooperation with some International organizations such as UNICEF, WHO, SIDA, IHCA (Switzerland), FHI (USA), FFI (France, CEI (Italy), SEAMIC, Greifswald (Germany), Pecs (Hungary)etc.

With those achievements and strength, Thai Binh Medical University would continuously develop to deserve the major university in the area and integrate with other universities of medicines and pharmacology nationwide and worldwide.
